Bristol Triangle Walk
A LONG DISTANCE CITY WALK
18 MILES / 28.2 KMS
This city walk was devised in 2001 by members of the Bristol Group of the Ramblers’ Association with funding and assistance from Bristol City Council. Offering wonderful views within and across the city, this walk combines to bring the rambler, occasional walker or beginner to explore the Waterfront, Durdham Downs, Avon Gorge and Blaise Castle Estate as well as the heart and history of the City.
Public transport and vehicle parking are available along the route and at points A, B and C. Refreshments and public toilets are also found at these points, with some public houses along the route. You may start the walk at any given point, but suggest you follow the written guide and walk in a clockwise direction.
Whichever way you choose you will be sure of a memorable, historic and scenic walk.

Vehicle parking and public transport are available at points A, D ,E and F. There are cafés , public toilets ,and public houses along the route. At Clifton Suspension Bridge and Temple Meads you can link with the Triangle Walk (see separate Leaflet)
You may start the walk at any given point, but we suggest you follow the guide below and walk in a clockwise direction. Whichever way you choose you will be sure of a memorable, historic and scenic walk. Good Luck

A to D Temple Meads Station to Brislington Village (
approx 8 km / 5 miles)From the railway station’s main booking hall follow Ferry and Waterbus signs. Cross the square and CO Valentine Bridge. CO to Avon St and again into New Kingsley Rd. Continue past Hannah More Primary School. TR into Jubilee St. Take FP to Barley Mow PH. TR along Barton Rd. TL into Oxford St and CO to the (1) Dings Park.
TR into Kingsland Rd, then TL to Silverthorne Lane. TR before railway bridge using FP and FB to cross Feeder Canal. TL and follow canal to TL again over Marsh Rd Bridge. TR into Netham open space and walk uphill on LHS through trees and across playing fields to opp RH corner. After crossing playing field TR into Cooperage Rd and TL into Netham Rd. TR into Grindell Rd. At Three Crowns PH, TR. CO Blackswarth Rd and walk through (2) Avon View Cemetery. (when closed TL after Three Crowns PH ,CO Blackswarth Rd and TR into Beaufort Rd)
Walk to Cemetery Chapel at the far end. Exit cemetery. TR onto Beaufort Rd. TR to take lane to left of Strawberry Lane. Stay up on path between allotments. Past two bungalows on RHS take tarmac path. Take first LH path to skirt the side of the hill. Continue through wooden kissing gate bearing to the right, then through another kissing gate to arrive at(3) Troopers Hill Chimney viewpoint.
With chimney behind you, go down the hill to Troopers Hill Rd (Optional
walk along riverside FP to Conham Vale CP and toilets,) TR to cross Crews Hole
Rd, TR and take first left down Quayside Lane to riverside walkway. TR for ¼
mile and CO River Avon FB.
Now cross St Anne’s Rd and SA use FP through Nightingale Valley keeping left
along mesh fence and stream to pass (4) St Anne’s Wishing Well.
Continue over FB, turn immediately right and climb to Wick Rd and exit woodland to the left. Follow pavement along Wick Rd, cross the railway line, and TL into St Anne’s Terrace. Now pass Oak Cottage on RHS side and Brislington Boat Screen on LHS side. TL over stone FB and TR by pylon ,and after ¼ mile cross another FB. On leaving Nightingale Valley, CO Allison Rd, SA onto path behind house No. 58a and TL. Follow second right turn, (over bridge) and onto Clayfield Rd to the end. TL and CO School Rd (with care). Take first right entrance into(5) Victory Park. TR uphill keeping cemetery to the right.
TR into Church Hill and second left to St Luke’s Church Yard.
Exit church’s main gate and CO to a path leading through to the (A4) Bath Road shops, opp White Hart Inn.
D TO E Brislington Village to Whitchurch
(approx 4 km / 2.5 miles)
After crossing FB over A4 TR into Runnymead Ave and take lane on left (West Town Court). CO to continue along West Town Lane. TL into Hungerford Rd. After ¼ mile TR Opp Hungerford Social club into Hungerford Gardens. Follow path into open space with Knowle Golf Club on RHS. Climb up steps to far end to (6) Stockwood Open Space viewpoint.
TR to follow FP with rear of houses on Left. (31-17) and continue along(49-41)(21-13)(10-24).TL. Turn into Sideland Close. TR into The Coots. TR into Harrington Rd. TR after Harvester Pub and follow FP towards Scout Hut, continue past metal barrier, and walk across open space to CO Craydon Rd. Continue with rear of red brick houses on RHS to emerge to TR onto Stockwood Lane and immediately TR over stile into meadow and follow FP to LH corner. TR onto Staunton Lane, continue to CO Bristol Rd A37 (take care). TL to CO Church Rd (note (7) St Nicholas Church)
E TO F Whitchurch to Bedminster Down
(approx 12km/ 7.5 miles)
Continue, to TR into Blackacre. Continue past cottages on LHS and through kissing gate, after 10 metres TL through kissing gate and cross FB and four fields to junction of four footpaths TR through kissing gate , continue ahead across field towards the rear of houses. Through gate and across FB into Emmett Wood (road).TL to walk along Stoneberry Rd. TL into Holbeach Way. TL into Longacre Rd and TL again into East Dundry Rd. Proceed uphill with Hill Farm sign to RHS. Just before the top of the hill, the stile at LHS may be used for spur walk to(8) Maes Knoll Hillfort viewpoint.
Return to proceed for a further 1.25 miles/2.3kms along East Dundry Lane. At the first lane on RHS with steel barrier TR and TL to walk along a green lane with radio mast ahead. TR at (9) North Hill Farm with radio mast now on your RHS following another green lane.
SA over two stiles with hedgerow on RHS. Walk SA to hedgerow (do not cross stile). TL with hedgerow on RHS .Proceed to RH corner of field passing trig point, hidden in the hedgerow. Continue over two stiles to walk along one more green lane. Pass Rossyln bungalow on LHS to bring you at the end of Middleway Lane to CO Broadoak Hill.
Walk SA towards Dundry church tower. As Oxleaze Lane bears right go through second metal farm gate to your left and follow the RH hedgerow to TR through first gap in hedge, then TL. Follow marker stones along old packhorse track to metal gate next to a stile. Climb over it to follow FoA FP. Pass Hill Farm to LHS to CO a series of metal stiles. Continue along Hill Rd to (10) Dundry Church viewpoint.
By the churchyard wall in Hill Rd TR immediately down Ham Lane and walk between pretty cottages to a metal gate at the far end. At Lower Grove Farm, CO metal stile. TL to follow a path across a field boundary into the next hilly field. Ignoring stile uphill, TR downhill and through dense undergrowth towards the LH field boundary. CO metal gate marked Samaritan’s Way FB(SWSW). Follow LHS of this field downhill to a metal stile and gate into a short lane leading to Highridge Rd.
TR past ’Windy Ridge’bungalow along lane passing Oxleaze Lane and cross the road with care to TL on SWSW FP with the Peart on RHS. CO stile and walk SA to next stile . Once over stile follow RHS hedge and beyond broken field boundary bear diagonally downhill using landmark of the city hospital chimney seen on the skyline. At next stile cross it and TR to follow along fenceline to top of the field. CO metal gate and follow along green tree-lined lane. Exit lane,TL onto Highridge Road to proceed across (11) Highridge Common .
Continue along tarmac road at first, then to furthest LHS passing Grove House, Highridge Manor house, Highridge Farm and Hamlet Drive TL into Elsbert Drive. Now CO stile into field and TR to walk along fields with the backs of houses on RHS. Continue over next four stiles to A38 road. (Do not cross) Instead follow roadside FP to RHS towards Bedminster Down.
F to A Bedminster Down to Temple Meads
(approx 13 km/ 8 miles)
At(12) Kings Head PH CO A38 (take care) to use FP with field and fence to the left and tall hedge on RHS. Proceed to rear of The Pavilion’s offices and CO stile to descend SA to FB. TR to join FoA FP. Pass under railway arch, bear right with industrial units to RHS. At next junction do not turn left but continue SA, CO stile and in so doing leave FoA FP to head towards A370 with Long Ashton ‘Park n Ride’ to LHS. CO metal gate across Ashton Brook. TL CO at traffic lights skirting ‘Park ’n Ride’ on LHS. Bear right over FB and under road bridge (A370).Continue along Ashton Rd to CO to enter (13) Ashton Court Estate -South Lodge continue along drive and TR on FP to house gardens.
Walk up stone steps. TL immediately up steps to follow gravel path to front of mansion. At far end of mansion TL to the cafe, toilets and visitor centre. Exit cobbled area by main gateway to double roadway. Keep a metal fence on your RHS, after 100m take FP on left, now with a view of the fenced deer park on RHS. Walk uphill, keeping woodland to LHS and fence on RHS. CO stile continuing uphill along the path to the top and a sculptured viewpoint. You have now rejoined the FoA FP. Exit(14) Ashton Court Estate - Clifton Lodge East.
XOX Rownham Hill to XOX to LHS of Bridge Rd .TR and continue to TL to Church Rd. ( Optional- walk through churchyard ) TR onto Vicarage Rd. Then TR onto North Rd, which meanders past the Amitabha Buddhist Centre (open daily 2-4pm) before reaching Bridge Rd again. CO Bridge Road to cross (15)The Clifton Suspension Bridge on RHS. (Note at this point you can join the Triangle Walk)
After crossing bridge, take RHS FP at signpost marked ‘To the lookout’. You are now next to the Avon Gorge Hotel at the top of the Zig Zag path. Continue along Sion Hill to pass Caledonia Place.
CO to use high level path to walk along to Royal York Crescent. At No 22 descend steps opposite York Gardens and across gardens. TR into York Gardens. CO Cornwallis Rd and TL into Glendale and continue left around the Paragon to TR and descend Polygon Lane South to Adam and Eve PH. TL to walk around Dowry Square, and then walk with the traffic flow towards Holy Trinity Church, Hotwells. TR here to walk SA, XOX and follow along A4 LHS of Merchants Road to TL to(16)Pump House Inn.
Continue along Pooles Wharf, with floating harbour on RHS. Walk along waterside path. At Capricorn Quay CO Hotwell Road at roundabout( take care) and proceed under block of flats to climb White Hart steps and TR along Bellevue Crescent. TL into Constitution Hill and climb to top. C.O Clifton Hill and continue along St Andrews Walk. On exit TR into Clifton Road then TL into York Place. TR at Dover Place to descend steps passing Dover Place Cottages. Continue down steps with Bellevue Cottages on L.H.S. TR and CO Jacobs Wells Road to the Avon Wildlife Trust HQ and climb Brandon Hill via the nature reserve to(17) Cabot Tower by keeping to LH paths.
With Cabot Tower behind you and facing attractive Victorian terrace houses walk downhill to Charlotte Street South. TL into Great George Street. At the junction TR down Park Street across College Green to TR at Royal Hotel and continue down Trinity Street between the Hotel and Bristol Cathedral. XOX Anchor Road to(18) @ Bristol and turn sharp left heading across Anchor Square CO (19) Pero’s Bridge.
CO Narrow Quay SA to XOX Prince Street and continue SA on Royal Oak Ave passing the Hole in the Wall PH. XOX and across Redcliffe Bridge on LHS. CO Redcliffe St. Continue SA into Portwall Lane with(20) St Mary Redcliffe Church on RHS. Where Portway Lane meets Redcliffe Way XOX at a large roundabout and continue SA to Temple Gate. Walk along The Friary and TR into Temple Meads Station and onto your final destination.

Bristol Group of the Ramblers Association
As members of the Ramblers’ Association we promote rambling, protect the
rights of way, campaign for access to open country and defend the beauty of
the countryside.
We have regular walks of varying distance and difficulty on Sundays ,
Wednesdays and Saturday mornings. In the spring and summer, we have shorter
walks on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Our Wednesday and Tuesday evening
walks are usually accessible by public transport. Non-members are most welcome
to come on rambles, but after a few walks they will be invited to join the
Bristol Group, Ramblers’ Association We have an membership of almost 1000
walkers in Bristol group, with a total of over 2000 in the Avon Area.

Approx. 4 Miles/6.1kms
From the station’s main entrance, take the exit road towards The Reckless Engineer ph. SA COX, TR. TL into Redcliff Mead Lane, continue past round kiln opposite (1) The Bell ph and into Prewett Street. TR on Dr White’s Close just before Methodist Church.
Go diagonally through (2) St Mary Redcliffe churchyard and exit at west door and down steps. If the churchyard is shut go SA into Colston Parade, TR into Redcliffe Hill. COX and pass in front of The Colliseum ph. You are now in Redcliffe Parade East. TR halfway along at carpark, (3) Harbour viewpoint. Take slipway down to the quayside. TL to The Ostrich ph. Cross swingbridge at Bathurst Lock. TR at Trin Mills to follow a line of townhouses, bearing left to Merchants Quay. CO Wapping Road to (4) Museum of Bristol lhs. Follow the quayside for 800m to (5) SS Gt Britain,TL. Opposite Caledonian roadsign TR and follow fp, past Albion Dry Dock on your right and TR to (6) Boatyard and Marina. Then TL after public toilets, walk alongside the marina and continue SA into Cumberland Close. TL to Mardyke Ferry Road. CO Cumberland Road using fb and TR down steps to join riverside fp/cycleway. Continue towards red brick warehouse on rhs and TL over Ashton Railway Bridge. TR to follow River Avon towpath.
Walk downstream towards Clifton Suspension Bridge following the Ashton & Pill fp pass first railway bridge. TL over redstone railway bridge, TR on permissive fp winding through National Trust woodland for 1km up 3 flights of steps to Burwalls Road. TR uphill to Bridge Road and (7) Clifton Suspension Bridge.
B to C Clifton to Westbury on Trym
Approx. 8 Miles/ 12.8 kms
Cross Suspension Bridge on lhs (northwest) to Clifton. TL up first pathway (before public toilets), to (8) Clifton Observatory. Follow fp past front of Observatory parallel to cliff edge. Take any paths (with steps) ahead to join up eventually to reach The Promenade. Bear left to follow wide tarmac path which leads to Bridge Valley Road. CO and follow fp uphill and onto (9) Clifton Down. TL and follow Circular Road with (10) Sea Walls and several viewpoints.
At houses take second left, Julian Road. Walk down rhs of this road and SA into Pitch and Pay Lane and fp to meet Church Road. CO to continue down Mariner’s Path, past St Mary’s Church. At Old Sneed Park TR and CO. At FoA waymark take short fp leading to Avon Way. TL following Roman Way. Near junction with Branscombe Road, take signed fp to (11) Sea Mills Lane. TR on Sea Mills Lane but leave road to follow banks of River Trym now on your lhs, use steps to cross a minor road and continue through some woodland to Shirehampton Road. CO or COX to The Millhouse ph.
Follow the fp behind ph which follows River Trym upstream via a fb and open pasture until the road bridge, walk underneath it to reach The Dingleover a storm drain.
Blaise Estate and Hamlet, Henbury Church
CO into Blaise Castle Estate (Coombe Dingle car park entrance). Follow wide
path for 500m that crosses a stone bridge, now keeping River Trym on lhs.
Follow main fp to (12) Stratford Mill that bears left up to Blaise Castle
House. Walk across to playgrounds exit estate on lhs of toilets, CO Kings
Weston Road, TL into Hallen Road to (13) Blaise Hamlet National Trust. Retrace
your steps to Kings Weston Road, CO and TL.
TR immediately into Church Lane. At village hall TR into (14) the churchyard and Henbury Church. Follow rhs fp to south church door (via interesting gravestones) to metal railings with steps down and through a dark tunnel, across Hazel Brook, up steps, returning to Blaise Estate. Follow path ahead, but soon bear right uphill to a wooden bench and through woods to Gamekeeper’s Wooden Cottage .TR on fp to join Rhododendron Walk bearing left uphill, passing a little way ahead, (15) Goram’s Chair and Lover’s leap. At junction of a few paths stay on main fp leading slightly downhill here but eventually edging Henbury Golf Course. Keep the wall on your lhs.
At a walled corner bear left to get down to a crossing path and TL through woods. Take path stepped through broken wall and follow lefthand fp at wooden fencing.
Walk through woods for 500m till you emerge onto the golf course. Follow the track to the right and ahead for 500m more until you reach a metal stile. TR onto fp until you reach the River Trym. TL and follow river fp by backs of houses on lhs, over simple bridge, to emerge onto busy Falcondale Road. TR and COX. Take fp to right of petrol station to Westfield Place (staggered barrier).
C to A Westbury on Trym, Badock Wood to Temple Meads Station.
Approx. 6 miles / 9.6kms
The fp leads to Westbury High St. TR to post office CO to Church Rd, walk through churchyard (steps) to Chock Lane. TL to cross River Trym TR to Dial House. [ If next too steep TL after crossing River at Chock Lane, follow Trym Rd to High Street, TR follow Passage Road up hill to junc with Channells Hill ]. TL up Channells Hill nr road junct at school TR up lane. SA through kissing gate into (16) Badock’s Wood, continue SA to nr 5-a-side playing area, bear R follow tarmac path to lhs & descend to 1st junction. TR with river on lhs. TL at path junct & CO River Trym (river now on rhs) uphill to exit wood via kissing gate.
At Lakewood Road, opposite Willowbank, TR into Vintery Leys. If Vintery Leys is too steep, walk SA to Lake Rd and TR. Follow it to Southmead Rd and TR into Eastfield Road and rejoin walk at Cherition Place. TL at Clover Ground. At Eastfield Road COX, then TR and immediately TL along Cheriton Place. TR onto Eastfield and TL along Grange Park. TR into Brecon Road. Rhs is St Ursula’s School with its clocktower entrance. Walk this far to CO to Carmathen Road.
TR along Radnor Road and TR along Cavendish Road to reach A4018 Westbury Road. TL to walk along pavement and across open space towards White Tree roundabout. CO North View to Westbury Park road and walk along pavement or green paths of (17) Westbury Park until at the far end, take second left, Blenheim Road. TL at Coldharbour Road by church, COX to TR into Cossins Road. Take second stepped-entrance on rhs (alternative steep ramp) into Redland Green Park. Stay on main tarmac path up to paths crossing at the bowling green, seen across on lhs. Bear right and follow this path to (18) Redland Parish Chapel. Take path past front of Chapel and facing Redland Road, turn immediately left into Woodstock Road, downhill passing (19) Redland High School on lhs Clarendon Road. TL COX at Redland Road. Walk along (20) Grove Park.
Cross railway metal bridge, Cotham Gardens on lhs and Lovers Walk. SA along Cotham Grove. CO Archfield Road into Pitch Lane. TR on Cotham Road. COX to Cotham Road South, passing shops.
St Michael’s Hill to the Centre
TR into Portland Street past Lutton Memorial Hall lhs and Kingsdown Sports
Centre rhs. TL into Alfred Place. Go past The Bell ph on rhs and TR into
Walker Street which becomes Myrtle Road. TL down St Michael’s Hill, past
University of Bristol main campus (rhs), Maternity Hospital (lhs). COX to
(old) Royal Hospital for Sick Children, to walk down on rhs of the hill (21)
City viewpoint looking southeast, as far as Kelston Round tump, near Bath.
Beyond St Michael on the Mount Church Without (closed) CO Lower Church Lane,
down steps to COX at traffic lights on Perry Road. (See Christmas Steps SA,
but use safe crossing first).
Continue down steps, COX at Colston Avenue to final flight of (22) Christmas Steps. At the bottom TL past the fish ‘n’ chip shop and site of St Bartholomew Hospital, walk through a covered walkway. Take double COX Lewins Mead and Rupert Street. TR and TL along Christmas Street and through historical (23) St John’s Arch, crossing Quay Street. Continue along Broad Street SA into High Street towards (24) Bristol Bridge. TL along Back of Bridge Street (a fp keeping river on rhs) through (25) Castle Park and Green. Follow fp and river across East Gate Bridge and walk along paved fp, up a few steps to St Phillip’s Bridge.
St Philip’s Bridge to Temple Meads Station
TR across bridge (Passage Street). CO and into Temple Back. TR to Water
Lane, TL into Petticoat Lane and take fp past Temple Church on rhs. Walk
through churchyard, TL into The Crescent Centre and TR into Temple Back. TL
into Temple Way, take fp on lhs and follow steps leading down and under Temple
Way Bridge and walk to the Ferry Station. TR up a flight of steps on to (26)
The Square.
TL at the square via a fp through outside carpark into (27) Temple Meads Station (via the Old Station Yard and Brunel Trust and covered car park), and into the station hall and on to your final destination.

Temple Meads Station to Clifton Suspension
Bridge.
Approx. 4 Miles/6.1kms
From the station’s main entrance, take the exit road towards The Reckless Engineer ph SA COX.

Continue past round kiln opposite The Bell ph.
TR down lane between Dr White’s Close (OP home) and a Methodist Church.

Follow the quayside for 800m to Maritime Heritage Centre & SS Gt Britain. TL.
Opposite Caledonian Road sign TR and follow fp past Albion Dry Dock on your right and TR opposite Orchard cider house toward boatyard.
TL after Michele’s snack bar and public toilets
Walk alongside the marina and continue SA into Cumberland Close. TL up Mardyke Ferry Road.
CO Cumberland Road using fb and TR down steps to join riverside fp/cycleway.
Continue towards red brick warehouse on rhs and TL over Ashton Railway Bridge. TR to follow River Avon towpath.
Walk downstream under flyover following the Ashton & Pill fp.
Pass one railway fb on L
TL over red-stone railway bridge.
TR on permissive fp winding through National Trust woodland for 1km up several flights of steps to Burwalls Road.
TR uphill to Bridge Road and Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Clifton to Westbury on Trym
Approx. 8 Miles/ 12.8 kms
Cross Suspension Bridge on lhs (northwest) to Clifton.
TL up first pathway (before public toilets), to Clifton Observatory.
Follow fp past front of Observatory parallel to cliff edge.
Take either of the paths ahead which join up to reach The Promenade.
Bear left to follow wide tarmac path which leads to Bridge Valley Road.
CO and follow fp uphill and onto Clifton Down.
CO Circular Road and follow Ladies Mile for c.250m amd TR down an avenue of trees across the downs.
Follow avenue to 2nd tarmac path across and TL to Julian Road.
Walk down rhs of this road and SA into Pitch and Pay Lane and fp to meet Church Road.
CO to continue down Mariner’s Path, past St Mary’s Church.
At Old Sneed Park TR and CO to short fp leading to Avon Way.
TL then TL again down Roman Way.
Past junction with Branscombe Road, TR down signed fp to Sea Mills Lane.
CO road and weir and TR and follow bank of River Trym on your rhs.
TR on a minor road and TL up steps.
Continue to follow Trym (on lhs) through some woodland to Shirehampton Road.
CO or COX to The Millhouse ph.
Follow the fp behind ph which follows River Trym upstream to a fb.
CO and TR through meadow to a road bridge.
Go underneath it and follow a concrete path over a pipe to reach The Dingle.
Blaise Estate and Hamlet, Henbury Church
CO into Blaise Castle Estate (Coombe Dingle car park entrance).
Follow wide path for 500m that crosses a stone bridge.
Now keeping River Trym on lhs, follow main fp to Stratford Mill.
Bear left up to Blaise Castle House.
TR past house to Henbury Road.
TR immediately into Church Lane.
At village hall TR into the churchyard of Henbury Church.
Follow anticlockwise fp round church to south door (via interesting gravestones) to metal railings with steps down and through a dark tunnel and across Hazel Brook.
Go up steps into meadow.
Follow path ahead for 50m, then bear right uphill across meadow to a wooden bench.
Go up through woods beside wall and up steps to carriage drive and TR.
Past Gamekeeper’s Wooden Cottage, TL up Rhododendron Walk.
Follow cliff edge (carefully), which includes viewpoints such as Goram’s Chair.
At junction of a few paths stay on main fp leading slightly downhill here but eventually edging Henbury Golf Course.
Keep the wall on your lhs.
At a walled corner bear left to get down to a crossing path and TL through woods.
Take path stepped through broken wall and CO steeply descending enclosed path.
Follow way-marks through woods for 500m till you emerge onto the golf course.
TR down tarmac track to 10th Tee, then TL alongside wood for 500m more until you reach a metal stile.
TR onto fp until you reach the River Trym.
TL and follow river fp by backs of houses on lhs, over simple bridge, to emerge onto busy Falcondale Road.
TR and COX.
Take fp to right of petrol station to Westfield Place (staggered barrier).
Westbury on Trym, Badock Wood to Temple Meads
Station.
Approx. 6 miles / 9.6kms
Continue along Westfield Place to Westbury High Street.
TR to Post Office and CO to Church Road.

TR to Dial House and TL up Channells Hill.
Near junction TR to fp (Dark Lane).
Go SA through kissing gate and continue past New Generation Sports Centre.
At a dip in the fp (ignore style on left) take the furthest R of 3 tarmac paths downhill past playing fields on rhs into Badocks Wood.
At bottom go SA across River Trym.
Follow tributary stream (on rhs) to exit wood via kissing gate.
At Lakewood Road, opposite Willowbank, TR into Vintery Leys.

If Vintery Leys is too steep, walk SA to Lake Rd and TR. Follow it to Southmead Rd and TR into Eastfield Road and rejoin walk at Cherition Place. |
TL at Clover Ground.
At Eastfield Road COX, then TR and immediately TL along Cheriton Place. TR onto Eastfield and TL along Grange Park.
TR into Brecon Road. Rhs is St Ursula’s School.
Past clock-tower, CO to Carmarthen Road (on L).
TR along Radnor Road and TR along Cavendish Road to reach A4018 Westbury Road.
TL to walk along pavement and across open space towards White Tree roundabout.
CO North View to Westbury Park road and walk along pavement or green paths of Westbury Park.
After St Christopher’s School take second left, Blenheim Road.
TL at Coldharbour Road by church, COX to TR into Cossins Road.
Take second stepped-entrance on rhs (alternative steep ramp) into Redland Green Park.
Stay on main wide tarmac path up to emerge between tennis courts (on rhs) and bowling green (on lhs) on Redland Green Rd.
CO to pass Redland Parish Chapel on lhs.
TL into Woodstock Road.
TR down Clarendon Road passing Redland High School on lhs.
TL COX at Redland Road.
Walk along Grove Park.
Cross railway metal bridge, Cotham Gardens on lhs and Lovers Walk.
SA along Cotham Grove.
CO Archfield Road into Pitch Lane. TR on Cotham Road.
COX to Cotham Road South, passing shops.
St Michael’s Hill to the Centre
TR into Portland Street passing Kingsdown Sports Centre rhs and Lutton
Memorial Hall lhs.
TL into Alfred Place.
Go past The Bell ph on rhs and TR into Walker Street which becomes Myrtle Road.
TL down St Michael’s Hill, past University Library (rhs).
COX to (old) Royal Hospital for Sick Children, to walk down on rhs of the hill.
City viewpoint looking southeast, as far as Kelston Round tump, near Bath. Beyond St Michael on the Mount Church Without (closed)
CO Lower Church Lane, down steps to COX at traffic lights on Perry Road. (See Christmas Steps SA, but use safe crossing first).
Continue down steps.
COX at Colston Avenue to final flight of Christmas Steps.
At the bottom TL past the fish ‘n’ chip shop and site of St Bartholomew Hospital, walk through a covered walkway.
Take double COX Lewins Mead and Rupert Street.
TR and TL along Christmas Street and through historical St John’s Arch, crossing Quay Street.
Continue along Broad Street SA into High Street towards Bristol Bridge.
TL along Back of Bridge Street (a fp keeping river on rhs) through Castle Park and Green.
Follow fp and river across East Gate Bridge and walk along paved fp, up a few steps to St Philip’s Bridge.
St Philip’s Bridge to Temple Meads Station
TR across bridge (Passage Street).
CO into Temple Back.
TR to Water Lane.
TL into Petticoat Lane and take fp past Temple Church on rhs.
Walk SA through churchyard.
TL into Temple Rose St and TR into Temple Back.
TL into Temple Way, take fp on lhs and follow steps leading down and under Temple Way Bridge and walk to the Ferry Station.
TR up a flight of steps on to The Square.
TL at the square and follow signs to Temple Meads Station (via the Old Station Yard and Brunel Trust and covered car park), and into the booking hall your final destination.
