Walks Abbreviations

Dates are Sundays unless otherwise indicated. Following the date, the area of the walk is given, followed by a walk grade in brackets, departure time (24 hour clock), length of walk, and Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 series map number. Where telephone numbers do not include an area code, they are Bristol telephone numbers (area code 0117).

Meeting Place

For Sunday walks, unless otherwise stated, the group meets at Great George Street Off of Park Street

Transport

Cars are shared to the start of the walk. Passengers should expect to pay 8p per mile.

Membership

Non-members are welcome to join in rambles but after two walks they will be invited to join the Ramblers Association.

Weekends
Fully paid current membership of the RA is MANDATORY for ALLRA” weekends, plus YHA membership for all hostelling. These must be booked through the leader. We share cars when traveling to weekend venues. Please contact the leader before making any travel arrangements.

Walk Grades and Description

C Easy - Walks on reasonably level ground and at an easy pace.

B Moderate - Walks which may include some hills.

A Strenuous - Generally harder than B walks, and at a faster pace. May include harder hill climbs & rougher ground.

HW Hill walk - Walks at a faster pace; some up to 4000 ft or more ascent, and possibly wilder terrain. Less likely to have a pub stop.

There is considerable variation in walk difficulty, particularly in A & B walks.

Also different weather conditions creates further variations.

Every effort is made to have a “pub stop” but one cannot be guaranteed.

 

Clothing - Please make sure you have suitable footwear and waterproof clothing. Denim jeans are not advised.

Food & Drink - A pub stop cannot be guaranteed. Please bring food and drink – (recommended 1 litre minimum on hot days), but do NOT consume it on the pub premises.

We have been asked to be conscious of personal security with names and telephone numbers on the programme. When this has been specifically requested we have used the first name only. Please respect their desire for such security when requested, and DO NOT pass on surnames or addresses without the consent of the person concerned.

Safety - No leader can be responsible for anyone who proceeds without direction

First Aid - In your own interests it is recommended you carry your own first aid kit. A group kit is NOT carried

Dogs will be welcome only if kept on leads.
